Your first interaction is with the polished sales rep who gives a 30-minute free consultation, uses all the urgency buzzwords, and assures you Martine Law Firm will take great care of you. After he collects your payment, you’re handed to a cheerful paralegal who becomes your “point person” and schedules a Zoom with your attorney. The Zoom feels reassuring, though in my case the attorney appeared in front of an odd CGI-style background — Everyone smiles, gathers info, and promises to help. And then… silence. When you email the paralegal about an urgent item discussed in the meeting, you get no response. You follow up. Nothing. You call, text, email the attorney. Nothing. The paralegal’s number is even disconnected. In a panic, you call the main office — and the paralegal casually answers. Only then do you learn the critical information you paid for is “not available.” If this had been a real emergency, you’d have been completely screwed.
