About Jeffrey Bercow

Jeffrey Bercow is a shareholder of Bercow Radell & Fernandez, P.A. Mr. Bercow previously was a partner and practiced land use and zoning law with the Miami office of Stroock & Stroock & Lavan approximately 5 years; prior to that, Mr. Bercow was a partner with Steel Hector & Davis. He has practiced land use and zoning law for over 25 years, and also has practiced in the fields of real estate law and litigation.

Jeffrey Bercow has represented developers, landowners, institutional clients, lenders and other property owners and purchasers for almost twenty years. His practice covers all aspects of local, state and federal real estate permitting and licensing, including zoning approvals, amendments of local government comprehensive plans, developments of regional impacts (DRIs), due diligence reviews, growth management, concurrency and environmental matters.

Mr. Bercow is a member of the Environmental Law and Land Use Section of the Florida Bar, has served on the Regulation of Land Use Committee of the American Bar Association's Section on Real Property, Probate and Trust Law, and has served as the reporter for the Eleventh Circuit for the Committee's national newsletter on land use law. He has lectured on zoning and other land use issues to real estate and trade groups and has written extensively on growth management and land use issues.

Mr. Bercow served as a member of the Board of Directors of the City of Miami Downtown Development Authority, from 1989 through 2007. He served as Vice Chairman for approximately 10 years, was a member of the DDA's Executive Committee and chaired its Downtown Development of Regional Impact Committee. He was a member of the Miami Beach Zoning Board of Adjustment from 1992 through 1997, and also served as a board member and secretary of the Downtown Miami Community Development Corporation. In 1998 and 1999, Mr. Bercow served as a member of the State of Florida's Transportation and Land Use Study Committee, created by the 1998 Legislature, as an appointee of the Secretary of the Department of Community Affairs. Mr. Bercow recently has served as the representative for the Builders Association of South Florida on the Joint Board of County Commissioners/Miami-Dade County School Board Working Group on Public Schools Overcrowding Relief, and as the Builders Association's representative on the Miami-Dade County Public Schools School Siting, Planning and Construction Committee.

Mr. Bercow is former Chairman of the Expressway Authority Committee of the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce's Transportation Group. As an active member of the Builders Association of South Florida, he has served as Chair of the Impact Fee Committee and as Vice Chairman of the Planning, Zoning and Growth Management Subcommittee. Mr. Bercow chaired the Metropolitan Dade County Transportation, Infrastructure and Concurrency Task Force from 1991 to 1993, advising the Board of County Commissioners on transportation, mass transit, and other infrastructure matters. He also served on the Dade County Parks and Recreation Department's Park Impact Fee Advisory committee.

Mr. Bercow is admitted to practice law in the State of Florida and holds the highest rating assigned by the Martindale-Hubbell Law Directory. He has also been selected as one of the Best Lawyers in America, Chambers U.S.A.'s "America's Leading Lawyers for Business", and Florida Trend's Legal Elite. Best Lawyers in America, the oldest and most respected peer-review publication in the legal profession, named Jeffrey Bercow as the "Miami Best Lawyers Land Use & Zoning Law Lawyer of the Year" for 2012. In 2011 and 2012, Legal 500 United States named Mr. Bercow as one of less than a dozen leading land use/zoning lawyers in the United States.
