About Trey Goodwin

Robert A. “Trey” Goodwin III earned his bachelor’s degree in Building Construction from the University of Florida in 2001, and his Juris Doctor degree from the Florida State University School of Law in 2005.

Trey’s legal practice focuses on representing clients in real estate disputes, construction matters, estate planning, probate, and will contests.

Trey served as a member of the Fort Walton Beach City Council (2011-2013) and serves on the Okaloosa County Commission representing District 4 (2014-present).

Trey’s deep commitment to public service is rooted in his comprehensive understanding of Northwest Florida’s community, business and governmental affairs environment.

In addition to his service in government, Trey is been actively involved in our community as a past member of the Kiwanis Club of Destin and the EDC Business Leadership Council of Okaloosa County.

Trey resides in Fort Walton Beach with his wife, Krystle, and their two children.

We have used Mr. Goodwin on several occasions, both for personal and business reasons. He is always pleasant, professional and attentive. His advice has always been very good.

Hired Attorney Trey Goodwin

Our interactions with this firm were quite disappointing. We paid an initial consultation fee of $290 for Mr. Goodwin to provide “preliminary guidance” (their emphasis) for establishing an LLC in Florida to hold our Florida property. At no point during the consultation were any downsides of creating an LLC brought up. Mr. Goodwin did not warn us of the impact of creating an LLC on our non-homestead 10% ad valorem real property tax cap, which would be followed by a higher base for annual assessments. There was a recent Florida 3rd DCA opinion addressing this issue. I called the Okaloosa tax office and they confirmed that if we placed our property into an LLC then the base tax rate readjusts and it would potentially cost us thousands of dollars. In my view, this is precisely the type of information which should be brought up during a paid initial consultation session. Also troubling is they had the wrong address on our documents, using one where we had not lived in four years.
