About Mr. Erik John Broel

Georgia Probate Law Group is a compassionate, dynamic Georgia probate law firm on a mission to make the probate and estate process fair and simple for our clients.  We work to make the process peaceful and efficient, when possible, and we negotiate disputes and litigate them aggressively, if necessary. Erik founded the firm in 2009. He sees it as his personal mission to demystify the process of handling an estate or trust, and to help people by making the complex estate process simple and accessible. He believes there is always a better way to do things, and loves finding new and innovative ways to deliver better, more effective service that solves the client’s key problem or issue, and improves the client’s life. Erik has seen first-hand, in his own family, what can happen when a probate estate situation gets out of control. When he was in college, one of Erik’s uncles died leaving an aunt he was very close to growing up widowed. Erik’s uncle had two adult children from a different marriage. Although the relationship between Erik’s aunt and his uncle’s two kids seemed to be on good terms before his uncle died, it soon became very clear that there were undercurrents to the relationship that his aunt never knew about. The two children forced everything to an estate sale, and Erik vividly remembers seeing his aunt pushed around in a wheelchair in her front yard at the estate sale while people walked in and out of her home, price tags on many items inside, and people buying things right in front of her that she had always thought were hers. Then her home was put up for sale right in front of her eyes. Luckily, the family came together and bought the home back from the estate. This whole experience left an indelible mark on Erik. After founding the firm, Erik decided that he could make a difference in the world by finding a better way to handle estates and trusts. Erik believes strongly in specialization, and that clients are always better served by having a firm on their side that focuses exclusively on helping people who have lost a loved one with estate and trust matters. He believes that if his aunt had hired a firm that focused on probate matters, her situation could have worked out a lot differently, and she could have been saved from a lot of unnecessary heartache. Because of that experience, the Firm's mission has focused exclusively on helping people with situations after a loved one has passed away.

Discussions with Mr. Broel were disappointing and negative. Early reviews for his company were excellent, Not so much recently. It appears that the ethical standards have diminished. I reached out to him thinking that he did not realize the poor quality of work being generated by his employees. He assured me "this is the way lawyers operate". He stated that I had misunderstood when I relayed numerous mistakes. I sent him proof in copies/emails. He acknowledged them but said they were normal and since they had been corrected it was "okay". It was not. Some were not corrected yet filed with the court. I was charged for the time to do the work, time to apologize and additional time for rework. I requested a return of the some of the fee. His position was that since it was settled they deserved the fees. He offered me $1k if I would not complain. The matter was settled when I represented myself after discovering the deceptive practices of the attorney assigned by Mr. Broel to my case.

Hired Attorney Mr. Erik John Broel

I was assured by the firm that they were experienced, and efficient. Their rates were high with no discounts for veterans or senior citizens but they would work expeditiously to resolve the issues. Unfortunately, it was a pattern of errors with apologies, excuses and delays over a two year period until termination by client. Draft copies of documents were filed with the court containing numerous errors. A failure to follow court instructions led to late filing. Failures to provide thorough explanations, to disclose information, of misleading statements and of numerous emails to obtain a simple answer were the norm. A careful review of billing was a must because of duplicate charges. Conflicting advice was given by the attorney. The company's position was their mistakes were just "customer service hiccups", that they had handled everything well. The facts do not support their opinion. This was egregious representation and a breach of faith. The ratings should include a minus factor.

Hired Attorney Mr. Erik John Broel

Eric's firm is staffed with inexperienced and incompetent attorneys who do not care anything about finding the most expensive way to handle their client's cases. I hired Eric's firm to file for letters of administration for my dad's estate and guardianship for my mother. Two months later. I had been billed nearly $10,000 to file two simplistic forms, only one of which was filed. In fact, one of Eric's senior adviser's advice amounted to malpractice. Eric needs to refund my money.
