About Ms. Courtney Gilkinson

Courtney M. Gilkinson, a native of Newfoundland, Canada, joined Browning & Smith, LLC in the spring of 2014, after completing her first year of law school. Courtney attended Memorial University of Newfoundland in Canada where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology with a minor in Legal Studies, as well as a Certificate in Criminology. Courtney earned her Juris Doctorate from Georgia State University College of Law in 2016.

While in law school Courtney served as the Vice Justice for the Russell Chapter of Phi Alpha Delta Law Fraternity International, served on the Executive Board for the Family Law Society, competed in Phi Alpha Delta’s International Mock Trial tournament in Washington, D.C, was chosen as a Student Member for the Charles Longstreet Weltner Family Law Inn of Court, and received the CALI award for Immigration Law and Practice for academic excellence.

During her last year of law school Courtney worked for the DeKalb County District Attorney’s Office where she practiced under the Third Year Practice Act as a Student Prosecutor in the Crimes against Children Unit.

From the very first consultation call, I was extremely impressed with Courtney’s compassion and professionalism, solution-focus, can-do positive attitude and deep knowledge of the law in 3 different states impacted by my complicated adoption case! She and her team are both efficient and empathetic, trustworthy and ethical! They left no stone unturned and ironed out plans A, B and C for our approach. I always knew what to expect and felt very confident that Courtney was handling things in the best interest of my transgender son. She remembered all the small (but personally important) details and met every commitment! Hired Attorney

Courtney researched laws concerning counter claims and other matters raised by the opposing attorney and made clear that these and other matters were null and void based on 3 separate case laws. Courtney also entered other exhibits that were raised in real time and made other quick calculations in response to arguments in real time. In closing, Courtney argued against a very strong and seasoned attorney resulting in a very favorable ruling on my behalf.

Courtney was great to work with through my divorce. She took the time to listen to me and help me come up with different options, explaining the pros and cons of the options. This was a great help in working through the divorce. Looking back on the process, she was always looking out for my best interest and helped me avoid unnecessary expenses.

I hired Courtney to represent me in my divorce proceedings after I became disappointed with my first attorney. The transition to a new firm went smoothly which was quite a relief. Courtney and the entire firm staff were very respectful, extremely responsive and focused on getting me a fair settlement. They listened to me and made me feel like we were true partners in the proceedings. I was extremely satisfied with the representation I received from Courtney and with the final divorce settlement.
