About Thomas Dorsey

I joined Daugherty Luckey as an Associate in May 2025. Before joining the firm, I practiced civil litigation at a national law firm in Northern Virginia, where I represented businesses and institutional clients in a wide variety of civil disputes. I’ve also served in government, including as an Attorney-Advisor at the U.S. Office of Special Counsel, where my work centered on federal government investigations of whistleblower disclosures across the executive branch.

I began my legal career clerking for Judge Randolph Beales on the Court of Appeals of Virginia, where I gained broad experience in Virginia appellate practice and appellate advocacy.

I earned my J.D., magna cum laude, from the University of Richmond School of Law in May 2020. During law school, I served as the Executive Editor of the University of Richmond Law Review. I also spent time working on tax litigation procedure for the IRS Office of Chief Counsel, and I interned for Justice Cleo Powell of the Supreme Court of Virginia.

I am excited to focus my practice on family law matters and Virginia appeals. My approach to practicing law reflects my belief that quality legal advocacy starts with listening. I strive to make sure my clients feel heard both by me and by the court. I take the time to learn what matters most to them and tailor a strategy around their goals. At the same time, I love the challenge of crafting creative, high-level legal arguments, especially in appellate cases where strong writing and analytical skills can make all the difference. Having worked in both of Virginia’s appellate courts and practiced in the courts of Northern Virginia, I look forward to bringing a broad base of litigation expertise to your case.

I have been a member of the Virginia Bar since 2020. Outside the office, I’m an avid sports fan who also enjoys cooking, traveling, and spending time with my energetic Sheltie, Chester.
