About Matthew A. Athey

Matthew A. Athey is a shareholder at Jorgensen, Brownell & Pepin, P.C. He is a real estate, business, and construction lawyer licensed to practice in Colorado state courts and the U.S. District Court of Colorado. He drafts and negotiates contracts from simple real estate sales to multimillion-dollar asset purchase agreements. He is also a leading landlord-tenant attorney in northern Colorado. He drafts commercial and residential leases, represents clients in eviction proceedings, and advises HUD landlords. He represents owners, generals, and subcontractors in complex construction litigation. Mr. Athey also practices oil and gas law. Because much of his work involves helping clients navigate state regulatory systems, Mr. Athey is also well equipped to handle administrative law matters. Whether your matter involves a DORA or CDLE Complaint, a DMV hearing or appeal, or a local land-use hearing with city or county commissioners, Mr. Athey can provide practical advice and strong legal representation. In addition to his practice of law, Mr. Athey has been a National Business Institute faculty member teaching construction law continuing legal education courses, as well as landlord/tenant classes.

Mr. Athey never loses sight of his client’s goals. Whether he is arguing in the courtroom, advising a corporate board, or inspecting a job site, Mr. Athey remains detail-oriented with a customized strategy for each client. His ability to effectively represent clients in negotiations, mediations, arbitrations, and in the courtroom is based upon strong client communication and sound legal advice. When he is not working, Mr. Athey enjoys spending time outdoors with his family. He especially loves to hike, camp, and fish.
