Mary is Of Counsel in the firm's Health Law department, concentrating her practice on regulatory, compliance, and transactional matters affecting healthcare providers, trade associations, and not-for-profit organizations. She represents a diverse array of healthcare providers and entities, including adult care facilities, skilled nursing facilities, home care agencies, physician practices, clinical laboratories, durable medical equipment suppliers, pharmacies, and other industry stakeholders.
Mary routinely represents healthcare providers in state and federal audits and disputes involving alleged overpayments, including challenges to the statistical methodologies and extrapolation techniques used by government and commercial payers.
She also advises healthcare providers and entities on various operational and compliance matters including with respect to federal and state fraud and abuse laws such as the Anti-Kickback Statute, Stark Law, and related statutes. Her experience also extends to Medicare and Medicaid billing compliance and reimbursement issues.
On the transactional and corporate side, Mary represents healthcare facilities in the purchase and sale of real property and healthcare operations, assists healthcare entities in obtaining appropriate licensure, and advises on the formation, restructuring, and dissolution of professional entities.
She also advises and defends healthcare providers and organizations in connection with subpoenas and other governmental inquiries conducted by federal and state authorities, including the United States Department of Justice and the New York State Attorney General’s Medicaid Fraud Control Unit.
