Jerry E. Huelat has over 43 years of litigation experience in all areas of insurance defense. Having tried more than 130 cases in front of a jury, he has substantial trial experience in the areas of arson, fraud, products liability, construction, wrongful death, premises liability, municipal liability, Title VII claims, bad faith, insurance coverage, contractual indemnity, and complex litigation. Mr. Huelat was born in Chicago, Illinois, in 1953, honorably served in the United States Marine Corp. from 1972 to 1974, and graduated from Pennsylvania State University in 1977. He obtained his Juris Doctor degree from Northern Illinois University in 1981 and was admitted to the Indiana bar that same year. He is also admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court, the United States Court of Appeals, the Seventh Circuit, and the United States District Courts for the Northern and Southern Districts of Indiana. Mr. Huelat is a member of the LaPorte County and Indiana State Bar Associations, where he formerly served on the Legal Ethics Committee. Mr. Huelat is the author of many articles and a regular lecturer at insurance defense seminars. He received the 2016 Diplomat Award from the Defense Trial Counsel of Indiana, and has been selected as an Indiana Super Lawyer for the last 12 years. He is also a member and Past President of the Defense Trial Counsel of Indiana who, in 2023, named him Defense Lawyer of the Year.
