About Luke Aaron Shipley

Luke was born in rural Northeast Tennessee, where he learned that hard work is good for the soul, the importance of a job well done and to never back down from a fight. Those lessons have been his guiding principles throughout his life and his professional career.

Luke graduated summa cum laude from the University of Tennessee in 2009 with a degree in political science and legal studies. Luke continued his education at the University of Tennessee College of Law. While in law school, he clerked for Judge Bill Swann, former Knox County Fourth Circuit Court Judge, where he assisted in the disposition of over 3,000 cases. He also earned top honors in both the Domestic Violence Clinic and the National Trial Team.

He graduated law school in 2012 and immediately began working as an associate attorney at the Held Law Firm, where he handled divorce, custody, child support, adoption, domestic violence, and estate planning cases. During this time, he was also appointed by Judges Bill Swann and Greg McMillan to hear order of protection cases as the youngest Special Master in Tennessee history. Most recently, Luke served as the senior associate attorney the law offices of LaFevor & Slaughter, where he managed a high-volume family law, mediation, and estate planning caseload. Luke and Megan met on their first day of law school in 2009. When the discussion (and some of the attendees) got a little too serious, Luke cracked a joke. The only person to not look completely appalled that someone was having fun was Megan. That was the start of a long friendship which lasted throughout law school, the bar exam, and beyond. Luke married Megan in 2016 to the surprise of absolutely no one who had known them in law school. While picking out his suit for court the next morning in 2017, Luke got the life-changing news that he was going to be a dad! Luke’s “junior associate” was born in November of 2017 and Luke’s life took a crazy/wonderful turn for the better.

In the summer of 2018, another dream was born, The Law Offices of Shipley & Swain, a boutique family owned law firm focused on family law and estate planning concerns. When he is not advocating for his clients, playing with his child or spending time with his wife, Megan, Luke enjoys watching UT football, a good cigar and handgun marksmanship. Luke is the only legally blind person most folks know who qualified for a concealed carry permit.
