Inadequate legal skills or did not pay attention to my case. Verbally abusive behavior. Did not negotiate simple settlement terms & repeatedly put me at risk when I thought it had been mitigated. Despite agreeing in writing to notify me in advance of exhausting my retainer, he breached the agreement & sent me a bill for several thousand above the retainer amount with no prior notice which was completely unexpected. Also, I discovered several thousand dollars missing from my funds handled by the attorney. When I questioned him he said it was an oversight. I alleged that it was deliberate as leverage against his bill, which I challenged.
Update to prior review. Attorney billed me several 1,000s above the retainer w/o my authorizatrion to exceed it, as required by a clause I inserted in his retainer agreement & which he agreed to in writing. Later, in writing, he stated that he didn't have to comply with the agreement because it was a "suggestion." Before sending me his only bill in 8 months, he wrongfully withheld a check due me for more than his bill. I discovered this & requested my funds - he sent them to me, stating that is was an accident -I suspected it was deliberate & his asst. testified later that she told him to withhold my funds (this is wrongful withholding). I complained to the attorney grievance committee (AGC) about his conduct: breach of contract, wrongfully withholding my funds & suggesting that I allow my house to freeze so that "maybe" the buyers who sued me over the sale, would walk away. This was negligent, if not illegal. The AGC deemed it a fee dispute & took no action against him.
