My wife and I engaged Steve Huret for a property dispute. We paid $975 for the initial consultation with Mr. Huret. We were charged even for time spent going through reams of paper concerning liability protection for Mr. Huret. Mr. Huret then asked for another $1000 check for a retainer. Later, we asked him to let us try to resolve the dispute without incurring more legal fees. He agreed to hold the $1000 check until he heard from us. We were unsuccessful in resolving the property dispute on our own and so contacted “our attorney”. Mr. Huret replied that he had taken on some other clients and was planning on doing some traveling. He said that since he had not deposited the thousand-dollar check that we wrote him, he felt under no obligation to represent us and declined to help us. So, sadly, after spending hours in his office and leaving $975 poorer, we were left to begin again the search for another attorney to help us. We received nothing of value for our time and money.
