Andrew Dunlap was born in Denver, Colorado and later moved to Kansas City, Kansas, where he attended Northwest Jr. High and Wyandotte High School. He started his higher education at Kansas City Kansas Community College and distinguished himself early, earning election as president of the freshman class and serving as a special assistant to the president. His leadership extended beyond campus when he became the first African American and the youngest person to serve on the Board of Catholic Charities in Wyandotte County, Kansas. Mr. Dunlap continued to Kansas State University, where he made history again as the first African-American member of the Varsity Debate Team and received the inaugural Martin Luther King Scholarship for academic achievement. He went on to the University of Kansas School of Law and was dually enrolled in the Graduate School of Public Administration, while also interning with the Wyandotte County District Attorney’s Office. He later accepted a commission as a U.S. Air Force officer and served as a Staff Judge Advocate, earning multiple awards, including two Air Force Commendation Medals and the Air Force Achievement Medal. After being honorably discharged, he opened his practice in Dallas, became a partner in Landerman, Dunlap & Jacobs, and served as of counsel to White Hill, Sims and Wiggins. Mr. Dunlap has more than 45 years of litigation experience, including criminal defense, and now devotes much of his practice to estate planning, helping families protect assets and pass on wealth with confidence.
