I worked with Richard on two occasions. My initial divorce and then a follow up proceeding several years later. As divorce can be emotional and sometimes the court systems do not make sense logically. Richard helped to sort through everything and get things done. Many times, going into court or after some issues that popped up, I would feel overwhelmed. Richard always had a very calming demeanor, while speaking the realities. If you are looking for a lawyer that has a great knowledge of the law, along with caring individually about their client. I would highly recommend Richard.

When Richard was retained I had a standing court order to be reunified with my sons. Unfortunately, despite both my ex and myself stipulating to it, she had no intention on actually allowing it to happen. At the 1st meeting with the boys, they all came running to me and gave me hugs and kisses. My ex left that meeting sobbing uncontrollably 😭. To whatever extent required she started emotionally abusing the children and refused to allow them to meet with again. So after months and months of this Richard was retained. After several meetings with opposing counsel and Dr. Bussey in excess of $10,000 in legal services a follow up meeting was scheduled, but she didn’t show up just like I told Richard she wouldn’t at the time he was retained. Dr. Bussey, resigned but recommended intensive reunification for the boys and myself. In 2.5 years and $75,000+ in legal services, I had a total of 7.5 hours with them. Richard was supposed to represent me, but he put his own interests ahead of mine.

In my opinion, Richard Masson and his office are a great choice if you want emails and calls to go unanswered for days on end, have motions and trial preparation completed at the final hour or get your questions and information back so late that you will not have a chance to completely review, correct items or be clear on the pre-trail trail tactics and strategies Richard will use. Trial day isn’t a time to be surprised by your own counsel. Lack of preparation is the norm and that could include being told that Richard would not be at your hearing right before it. His replacement, being an inexperienced lawyer that you didn’t hire, doesn’t know your case and will fail to represent you in the fashion that you expected Richard to do so when you hired and paid him. Be prepared to track your own filing dates, battle to get calls and emails returned, and hear many different excuses along the way. Pay for someone to provide law service not practice of it.
