About Matthew Frederick Richter

Matt Richter is an attorney who represents disability claimants before the Social Security Administration and in the U.S. federal courts. He represents claimants who have been denied their social security disability benefits and/or supplemental security income both at the hearing level before Social Security’s administrative law judges, and on appeal in Federal District Court and at the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals.

Born and raised in east-central Indiana, Matt graduated from Richmond High School in 2008. He received his undergraduate degree, a B.A. in political science, from Indiana University in 2012. In May of 2016, Matt received his law degree (J.D.) from Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law in Indianapolis. While in law school, Matt represented a social security disability claimant before an administrative law judge as part of the school’s disability clinic and was named to the “Order of the Barrister’s” during its moot court competition.

Experienced Social Security Attorney Matt Richter

Matt has practiced Social Security Disability law since he was sworn in as an attorney in 2016. He specializes in representing claimants who have exhausted Social Security’s process and been denied by suing the agency in federal district courts around the country. Matt has successfully represented claimants in more than 250 lawsuits against the Social Security Administration in Federal District Courts within Indiana, Illinois, and New Mexico.

In instances where District Courts have affirmed Social Security’s denials of his clients’ disability benefits, Matt has successfully appealed to the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals, just one rung beneath the United States Supreme Court, 13 times. In 2021, he was named to the Local Rules Advisory Committee for the United States District Court for the Southern District of Indiana. Matt has been a member of the National Organization of Social Security Claimants Representatives (NOSSCR) and the Indiana State Bar Association since 2016.

Aside from work, Matt is a rabid fan of his beloved Indiana Hoosiers. He is a parishioner at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Indianapolis and enjoys working on his home and yard, discussing politics, spending time with his fiancé, Megan, and trying to keep up with their Australian Shepherd, Jack, and their Corgi, Cartman.
