How much money do I need to fix my mother's papers if I am a US citizen and she's been here in the US for over 20 years?

Answered by attorney Bruce A. Coane (Unclaimed Profile)
Immigration lawyer at Coane & Associates, PLLC
The filing fee is about $1490 and if you hire a lawyer, the lawyer's fees are usually more than that. You need proof she's your mother, such as your birth certificate and proof of her legal entry. You also need your tax return and there are many other documents and forms.

How long does it take to petition an African husband?

Answered by attorney Larry F Chin (Unclaimed Profile)
Immigration lawyer at Julian & Chin, LLP
If you are a US Citizen, the process typically takes one year. The hurdle for your boyfriend is whether the US Consulate in Ciudad Juarez will agree to process his case. Typically, the State Department will only process visas for citizen and nationals of the country where the post is located.

Can i apply for a greencard on my own without a sponsor, or someone filing on my behalf?

Answered by attorney Karen Weinstock
Immigration lawyer at Weinstock Immigration Lawyers, P.C.
Based on what category are you going to file on your own? Most often you need a sponsor (unless you meet one of very few exceptions) either through family or through an employer. However, your employer could file an immigrant visa petition for you that will lead to a green card for you and your spouse. Contact a good immigration lawyer to discuss your options. RNs have an advantage.
