I want apply for permanent legal status for my wife or a green card. what is the process and fee please ?

Answered by attorney Doreen A. Emenike
Immigration lawyer at Law Offices of Doreen A Emenike
Hello, If you are a U.S. citizen and your wife entered the U.S. lawfully, you would be able to apply for her legal permanent resident status. The process should take less than a year and she will be given a conditional resident status if you have been married for less than 2 years at the time her application is approved. This conditional resident status is good for two years, and at least 3 months before its expiration, you will need to apply for her permanent green card. It is important to speak to an experienced immigration lawyer in your local city, show them proof of her legal entry, and discuss her immigration and criminal history, if any, as these may affect her application. Good Luck.   Disclaimer: This information is of a general nature and is not, nor is it intended to be legal advice. Which type of visa do I qualify?

Christine Victoria Troy
Answered by attorney Christine Victoria Troy (Unclaimed Profile)
Immigration lawyer at The Law Office of Christine Troy
You are not allowed to enter as a visitor to work in the US. That is considered visa fraud and will get you in to a lot of trouble. However you may be eligible for your own work or training visas, depending upon your education and experience levels. These would allow you to enter with the primary purpose of employment/training and you would be able to see your girlfriend at the same time.
