How can i get a drivers license

Answered by attorney Alan Lee
Immigration lawyer at Alan Lee Arthur Lee, Attorneys at Law
Only the states of Washington and New Mexico currently allow undocumented immigrants to obtain driver's licenses if they are residents of the state. An individual like you who is waiting on his visa and whose turn in line has not yet come up will find it almost impossible to obtain a driver's license in other states. You will likely have to wait until you obtain your immigrant visa or have an employment authorization document (EAD) approved on the basis of an adjustment of status to permanent residence. With an EAD, you would likely be able to apply for and obtain a driver's license. Will my application for US citizenship be denied if I have a DUI charge?

Answered by attorney Alena Shautsova
Immigration lawyer at Law Offices of Alena Shautsova
It probably will be if it happened within the 5 years from the date of application. See an Immigration attorney and hire a good criminal lawyer. The UCSIC will look to check if you were a person of good moral character for the post 5 years.

Your question requires an attorney consultation. There are many factors that would need to be considered and evaluated. I strongly suggest that you contact an experienced immigration attorney for a face-to-face consultation and give him/her all of the facts surrounding your situation. (S)he would then be in a better position to analyze your case and advise you of your options.
