John J. Callahan, Jr. is a share holder in the Huntsville, Alabama law firm of Callahan PC, a professional corporation. A native of New York, he received his A.B. degree (1979) from Columbia College of Columbia University, where he was a student member of the Honors Colloquia on the History of Social and Political Thought. He subsequently received his J.D. degree (1983) from the University of Alabama School of Law, where he was awarded membership in the Order of Barristers, having served on the Moot Court Board and been a member if the team representing the law school at the Craven Mot Court Competition at the University of North Carolina Law School in 1983. Prior to entering the private practice of law in June 1984, he served as law clerk to Alabama Supreme Court Associate Justice Oscar W. Adams, Jr. during the period of June 1983 to June 1984.

John's principal areas of practice are: government contracts, labor and employment (generally representing employers), and business and commercial law and litigation. Having been admitted to practice in the U.S. Supreme Court, he has represented clients in various federal and state courts, trial and appellate, as well as in state and federal administrative forums, among them the U.S. Government Accountability Office (Comptroller General), U.S. Small Business Administration's Office of Hearings and Appeals, various Boards of Contract Appeals and the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.

John, as lead counsel for corporate and individual clients, has successfully litigated: disputes concerning government prime contracts (award protests and claims), subcontracts, teaming agreements and joint ventures; claims of trade secret misappropriation, intentional interference with business and contractual relations, corporate oppression (squeeze-out of minority shareholders), deceptive trade practices, breach of non-competition and non-disclosure agreements, and shareholder derivative claims; and the defense of state and federal claims for sexual harassment, and other claims of employment discrimination, as well as claims for violation of other federal labor laws, including the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act. He also has considerable experience in the defense of personal injury actions, including, for example, product liability and wrongful death claims, the prosecution and defense of construction and other tort and contract claims, and the administration of probate estates, including litigation of related claims, such as claims against a personal representative for breach of fiduciary duties. Additionally, John has represented other professionals, including physicians, psychologists, dentists, architects and accountants concerning licensing, disciplinary, professional liability and other matters pertaining to their professional practices.

John advises clients concerning compliance with federal statues and regulations governing procurement by U.S. Government military and civilian agencies, and federal statues and regulations affecting employment; and corporate policies and procedures necessary for establishing and maintaining such compliance. He regularly represents clients in corporate and other business transactions, such as asset and stock purchases, corporate and government investigations and other organizational and operational matters. Additionally, he is a member of the Panel of Neutrals for the United States District Court, Northern District of Alabama.

John has made presentations on government contract law and employment law topics for the Public Contract Law Section of the American Bar Association, the North Alabama Chapter of the Federal Bar Association, various chapters of the National Contract Management Associations (NCMA), and the Huntsville-Madison County Chamber of Commerce, among others. He also has presented lectures on the Alabama Competitive Bid Law for the Huntsville chapters of the Construction Specification Institute and NCMA.
