Maura Kolb joined The Lanier Law Firm in 2003 after working closely with the firm on complex commercial and personal injury litigation matters. Her innovative thinking and compassionate approach with clients made her a perfect addition to The Lanier Law Firm team. Maura's practice over the years has focused on antitrust and pharmaceutical litigation, as well as disputes involving products liability, breach of contract, personal injury and wrongful death. She was an integral part of the various multi-million dollar Vioxx trials, which garnered national attention and set the stage for the $4.85 billion nation-wide settlement. Subsequent to that, Maura displayed her ability to truly represent our firm clients as she managed the law firm’s voluminous Vioxx settlements to completion, advocating for increased settlement values for each client, then collecting and distributing millions of dollars to our clients.
As the Vioxx matters came to a close, Maura began representing clients affected by the BP Gulf Oil Spill. Her work in this area, which was largely pro bono, resulted in hundreds of clients receiving money for their vast losses. In 2011 she was promoted to the high profile role of managing the bankruptcy claims settlement department for the asbestos section of the firm. She continues in that capacity today meeting the voluminous challenges head on, collecting millions of dollars for The Lanier Law Firm clients every year.
Maura was born in East Chicago, Indiana. She graduated cum laude from Northeast Missouri State University in Kirksville, Missouri in 1989, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications with a concentration in Business Management and minors in Spanish and Criminal Justice. She moved to Texas and earned her law degree from the University of Houston in 1995 and began practicing law at the firm of O'Quinn & Laminack in Houston.
Maura was admitted to the State Bar of Texas in 1995 and is additionally admitted to practice in the United States District Court for both the Southern District and the Western District of Texas. She is a member of the State Bar of Texas, American Bar Association, Houston Bar Association, American Association for Justice, and the Texas Trial Lawyers Association.
Maura has called Houston home for over twenty years and still resides here with her family. She enjoys volunteering her time and resources to the Houston Food Bank, various Down Syndrome charities, as well as many other community non-profits.
