Growing up in the city of Monterrey, an industrial outfit in Northeastern Mexico just a two hour drive from Texas, Jose couldn’t wait for summer to arrive so that his family could take a vacation in places such as Houston, McAllen, San Antonio, and South Padre Island.
He especially liked when they traveled to Houston and visited AstroWorld, so when years later he returned to study at Rice University MBA Program, he was saddened by the news that it had shut its doors.
Nonetheless, living in Houston allowed him to experience what life in Texas is like. Jose was lucky enough to have married his wife shortly before their move to the Houston, and our shared experiences in the Lone Star State allowed him to realize that “Regiomontanos” (as people from Monterrey are referred to) and “Tejanos” share many cultural and personal traits. Some of those shared traits include their love for cowboy boots and hats, a “can-do” attitude, and of course, barbecuing.
After finishing up his studies at Rice, Jose and his wife decided after much consideration to settle down back in his home city of Monterrey where they have been since 2013. Their firstborn child is expected next month, and they can’t wait for her to start toddling about so they can get a family pup.
Now back in Mexico, Jose enjoys advising U.S. companies on how to establish their businesses in Mexico, and how to enter into the right legal agreements that allows them to focus on business expansion rather than resolving disputes.
Jose also enjoys incorporating his financial and business experience when offering legal advice, because clients feel much more comfortable when they sense that their lawyer understands what’s at stake from a business perspective.
