I realize lawyers have many clients, which obligates a lot of their time. I feel my husband and I was not currently updated with the status of our case. We constantly had to call him to obtain any information regarding updated outcomes. We rarely received any documents pertaining to our case unless persistently requesting for it. Overall we feel we were treated with neglect and although we were awarded a settlement, there has been very minimal effort to attempt collection of our settlement.
I interacted with this attorney in the context of a small claims case where he attempted to involve himself on behalf of his wife. As someone who is not an attorney but studies law, I found his conduct deeply troubling. Immediately before court, he attempted to intimidate me by serving a memorandum, despite that not being a proper or permissible method of service in this context. When I brought this to the judge’s attention, the judge expressly corrected him and stated that he could not serve me in that manner. He also attempted to represent his wife in small claims court, which is not permitted under Hawaii law, something an attorney practicing in this state should clearly know. Additionally, he attempted to manipulate the proceedings by claiming his wife required a translator, despite the court already providing one. Watching a licensed attorney disregard basic procedural rules and attempt to misuse his status in court was disturbing.
