About Jennifer A. Deland

Jennifer Deland was born in Belfonte, Pennsylvania, and grew up in Ossining, New York. She graduated from Yale University, worked for a time as a paralegal for a New York law firm, then attended Boston University School of Law, graduating magna cum laude in 1986. She practiced law in New York City for several years before coming back to the Boston area in 1991.

In New York City, Counselor Deland practiced securities law, including the law of mutual funds. When she first established her own firm, she practiced in a variety of areas, including litigation, real estate law, and bankruptcy. Estate planning has proved to be the best way to use her abilities to serve her clients.

Counselor Deland is a member of the National Academy of Elder law Attorneys. She resides in Holliston. She is also a member of the Holliston Business Association.

The Counselor is an occasional contributor to the op-ed pages of the local newspapers.

Hired Attorney

I rarely write 1-star reviews but strongly feel this is necessary. My husband and I met with Jennifer Deland to discuss estate planning, and the meeting was nothing short of ridiculous. We sat in a tiny, dingy room that barely fit three. The whiteboard she intended to use was stained with marker, so she opted to use someone else's faded hen-scratches to “guide” our discussion. She jumped from topic to topic erratically, and our specific questions seemed to throw her off. She wanted us to pick an approach (will/estate) without explaining the pros and cons of each, which is why we were there! Frustrated, we decided to end the discussion, which was when she leaned into us and angrily asked, "What's your objective?" Stunned, we replied, "to make a plan." So rude. So unprofessional. So costly. Jennifer requires a $400 non-refundable consultation fee unless you sign on with her within 30 days. Needless to say, we're down $400 and no further along than when we started.
