Carlo Canty is a seasoned trial lawyer who has tried over forty Montana District Court jury trials to a verdict. Mr. Canty began his legal career as a Deputy County Attorney for Butte- Silver Bow with County Attorney Bob McCarthy. For 11 years, Mr. Canty prosecuted a wide range of felony crimes, including homicides. Apart from his District Court jury trial experience noted above, Mr. Canty tried hundreds of cases before the Justice and City Courts of Butte- Silver Bow (primarily DUI's). In 2002, Mr. Canty accepted a position as an Assistant Attorney General with Attorney General Mike McGrath (of Butte- now Chief Justice of the Montana Supreme Court). As an Assistant Attorney General, Mr. Canty practiced across Montana before nearly all of Montana's District Court Judges and was successful in obtaining jury verdicts in some of the most demanding and widely publicized trials in recent Montana history. In State of Montana v. Laurence Jackson, a death penalty case which involved the shooting of a police officer, Mr. Canty introduced hundreds of pieces of physical evidence over a 4- week trial in Missoula, Montana. In 2005, Mr. Canty's trial work was broadcast live before a nationwide audience on Court TV Network for more than 2 weeks as he prosecuted the operator of a Billings daycare for an infant homicide resulting from the unauthorized administration of Benadryl. Throughout his tenure as an Assistant Attorney General, Mr. Canty also served the United States of America as an Assistant United States Attorney. Mr. Canty's interest in BKBH was the direct result of his admiration of the professional skills he observed in BKBH trial lawyers during his tenure as an Assistant Attorney General. Since joining BKBH in 2008, Mr. Canty has rapidly made significant contributions to the firm's litigation group who rely on his continued ability to meet a demanding trial and travel schedule while achieving the best possible results for BKBH clients. His skills in interviewing a wide variety of witnesses have made him particularly strong in the area of deposition practice. Mr. Canty has successfully applied his familiarity with the practice of medicine to medical malpractice defense litigation and has already independently handled MMLP hearings with successful results, and was a key player in BKBH's earning of a unanimous defense verdict in a one-week medical malpractice trial.
