I regret to share a troubling experience with Mr. Douglas Anton. I paid him $X,000 during my legal matter—under pressure and distress—after he called and threatened to drop my case unless I came to his office immediately with cash. The payment was made under a verbal and written understanding that the legal fee would be capped at $x,000 and that the majority of the funds would be returned to me. I have a voice recording of this agreement, where Mr. Anton expressly states the purpose was to help me “get my life back in order.” He assured me he would present to the court and opposing counsel that the full $xx,000 was for legal services, while secretly refunding most of it to me behind the scenes. Despite these promises, Mr. Anton never returned the funds or provided any accounting, despite multiple requests. I am now involved in a formal fee arbitration process and have submitted a grievance to the New Jersey Office of Attorney Ethics with supporting evidence, including communications
