In our case, the deciding, unavoidable factor should have been recognized very early. Instead, the matter was stretched over many expensive months.
Thomas Reinsma wrote himself into my family's Trust, as TRUSTEE. He then told me 30 years later that he knew it was a conflict of interests! He also advised my mother to purchase a very large annuity for a 70 year old daughter, who does not have children!
He would not relay info to me from the estate attorney; he did not seem engaged in situation.
My experience with S&F was less than satisfying. Several attorneys at the firm were studying the case, yet they did not seem to communicate with each other, and communication between themselves and the attorney for my mother's estate was non-existent as far as I knew. The only way for me to obtain information was to ask, then wait several months, then ask again. This process has taken over two years, it was very expensive, and I don't feel that they have ever been "on my side."
If only there was a way to get an unethical business negative stars... For the protection of fellow consumers looking for legal representation; I cannot recommend enough to seek other firms than Scholten Fant. I was recommended Mary Mims by several individuals; I was looking forward to having great representation, and I could not be more disappointed in the representation, lack of responsiveness, unjustified billable hours, clerical errors and complete lack of organization by the attorney and his paralegal that I was handed off to (with no explanation). When bringing up several of the issues I had experienced with the firm and asking for improvements moving forward, I was then notified that the firm would be terminating our agreement instead of simply improving their standards and representation. Do yourself a favor; find a firm that has reliable employees and will represent you accurately and fairly in the court system because you will not find that at Scholten Fant.
