Siemsen is an attorney who focuses his practice on serving the business law needs of large and small businesses in the Chicago, Illinois area and beyond. He earned his Juris Doctor degree from Chicago-Kent College of Law in 1999, where he was Valedictorian of his law school class, an editor of the Chicago-Kent Law Review, and a member of the Moot Court Honor Society. He received a variety of other awards and accolades including earning the CALI Award (highest score in class) in: Administrative Law, Advanced Property: Real Estate Transactions, Advanced Tax Transactions, Appellate Advocacy, Business Entity Formation, Civil Procedure, Commercial Law: Secured Transactions, Construction Law, Contracts, Corporate Finance, Criminal Law, Evidence, Federal Courts, Justice and the Legal System, Legal Writing I, Personal Income Tax, Property, and Taxation of Business Entities. After law school, Mr. Siemsen served as law clerk to the Honorable Clarence A. Brimmer, United States District Court Judge. Mr. Siemsen began private practice in 2000, joining the law firm now known as DLA Piper US LLP, one of the world's largest law firms. At DLA Piper, Mr. Siemsen counseled a wide range of businesses on a variety of sophisticated corporate and commercial transactions. His experience as a Chicago business lawyer includes merger and acquisition, private equity, corporate finance and securitization transactions and transactions involving the private placement of securities. He has provided counsel on corporate law issues including business entity formation, shareholders agreements, limited liability company operating agreements, buy-sell agreements, and corporate governance and corporate secretary functions. His practice involved drafting and negotiation of all types of commercial contracts including supply agreements, equipment leases, software license agreements, employment agreements, confidentiality agreements, and non-competition agreements. Mr. Siemsen has counseled business law clients on legal issues involving antitrust law, health care law, privacy law, commercial law and secured transactions, franchise and dealer protection laws, and fair trade and consumer protection laws. He has represented manufacturers, franchisors, and licensors in all aspects of structuring, expanding, and maintaining their distribution, franchising, and licensing programs and has guided clients in establishing and maintaining distribution, licensing, and joint venture relationships in Canada, Mexico, Asia, Europe, Australia, South America, and the Middle East. Mr. Siemsen founded Siemsen Business Law in 2009. He is a member of the American Bar Association, Illinois State Bar Association, Chicago Bar Association and DuPage County Bar Association. He is an instructor at the Ken Blanchard College of Business at Grand Canyon University in Phoenix, Arizona, teaching courses on legal and ethical issues in business. He received a Bachelor of Science degree from Michigan State University in 1993, and worked as an environmental consultant prior to entering law school.
