Mark Watson is an associate in the firm's corporate health care group. Mr. Watson's practice focuses on the representation of hospitals, health systems, physician groups and other healthcare providers in connection with various operational and transactional matters involving the Stark Law, the Anti-Kickback Statute, the False Claims Act, HIPAA privacy and security compliance, Medicare and Medicaid payment and the Patient Protection and Affordability Act.
Mr. Watson has advised clients in the following areas:
-structuring and implementing physician alignment strategies, including practice-acquisition and employment, clinical co-management, comprehensive professional service arrangements, joint ventures and accountable care organizations;
-forming management services organizations on behalf of health systems seeking collaborative opportunities with independent physicians;
-developing clinical integration strategies for purposes of health reform and antitrust compliance;
-drafting and negotiating physician recruitment and employment agreements;
-drafting medical staff bylaws to meet Joint Commission accreditation standards;
-developing synchronized hospital-based and office-based peer review programs for integrated delivery systems; and
-advising clients regarding stock sales and acquisitions, practice separations, practice formation, drafting of shareholder agreements, operating agreements and bylaws, and other corporate governance and compliance matters.
Mr. Watson has been selected for inclusion by Virginia Super Lawyers magazine in its Rising Stars edition in 2010 and 2011.
Prior to joining Hancock, Daniel, Johnson & Nagle, Mr. Watson was an associate in the health care section of Kaufman & Canoles. Mr. Watson earned his bachelor of science in business administration from the University of Richmond and his juris doctorate from the DePaul University College of Law. Mr. Watson is a member of the American Health Lawyers Association and Virginia Medical Group Management Association.
