I hired Emily Rapp as my first divorce attorney and regret ever having used her. I was married for about 20 years to a covert narcissist and was not in good shape mentally, emotionally, or financially. She came across as compassionate and assured me she could help me out. After two years and paying her $40,000 she wanted me to pay her an additional $10,000 for a trial retainer. At this point, I told her I could no longer afford to use her and she dropped me. Emily has a very small law firm and high overhead therefore I felt she billed me many hours that were not necessary especially since this case did not involve any children and I was only asking for half the marital assets for the time we were married. Not sure why she could not get that done by paying her $40,000. My second divorce attorney was able to get me the divorce in a timely manner and fair billing. There are some decent attorneys out there but they are few and far between unfortunately Emily Jo Rapp is not one of them.
She was appointed as the GAL in my case, and my experience was very disappointing. She did not contact individuals on my intake sheet, and communication with me and my attorney was limited. She missed a scheduled meeting despite receiving extensive documentation in advance and delayed rescheduling. She stated false DCFS reports would affect parenting time, yet when the other party made what I believe was a false report, she claimed to investigate. No meaningful changes occurred, and she declined to bill ~$6,000 citing prior overbilling. I filed an ARDC complaint and advise caution. There is a lot more I would like to add but I’m limited to 1,000 characters
