I hired Joan Mell to represent me in two civil matters. After signing a fee agreement, she abruptly abandoned my cases without notice, despite active court deadlines and without filing a motion to withdraw, as required by law. When I reasonably asked that we communicate in writing—or by phone with a follow-up summary email—she flatly refused, responding simply with "Nope." Shortly afterward, she sent a message saying “I don’t like you and I’m not taking any more action on your behalf. Contracts are rescinded.” This occurred while she was still counsel of record in one case and had agreed to represent me in another with pending deadlines, including a motion for default, discovery responses, and a court-ordered deposition. She admitted she had done “no work” on the case but still pressured me to accept a settlement without explaining how it was obtained. In my experience, this was an abandonment of professional responsibility and a serious breach of trust.
