Varies from case to case, but anywhere from a year or more, depending on whether assets have to be converted to cash, whether beneficiaries and other interest parties are fighting.

What can I do if my girlfriend wants me to put her name on the property deed?

Answered by attorney Michael Burton McFarland (Unclaimed Profile)
Estate Planning lawyer at Michael B. McFarland, PA
If she is putting money into the project, you could give her a note for the value of her input, possibly secured by a deed of trust, due on sale of the property. That way, you are still the owner, but she has security for her investment.

If my father passed away should I write a letter to the creditor or send a bill back marked deceased?

Answered by attorney Sabina Tomshinsky
Estate Planning lawyer at Home Town Law, P.A.
You are not personally responsible for your father's debt unless you were a co-signer or a guarantor. It would serve your interests to consult with a probate attorney to determine if you must open a probate estate in the first place before taking any action.
