About Matthew Edward Roark

Matthew, rooted in Carter County, Tennessee, pursued his education at Hampton High School, graduating in 2001 before attending Austin Peay State University. As a dedicated student-athlete, he played football for the Governors until 2004 and completed his degree in English, graduating Magna Cum Laude in 2005. During his studies, he actively participated in student governance and held an executive role in the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity.

In 2006, Matthew advanced his education by attending Southern Illinois University School of Law. During this time, he interned under the late David Crockett in Elizabethton and with the District Attorney's Office in the First Judicial District. These internships provided him with valuable insights into the needs of eastern Tennesseans. In 2009, upon graduating, Matthew returned to Northeast Tennessee to contribute to his community. He married in 2011 and began his legal career as an Assistant District Attorney, focusing on drug offenses.

In 2023, Matthew transitioned to Baker Foster Potter, P.C., where he now leads their criminal defense efforts in the region. His extensive legal experience includes over 60 criminal jury trials, significant involvement in homicide cases, and appearances on "American Justice." Matthew also contributed to founding the First Judicial District’s Felony Recovery Court.
