If a man and woman is married for less than 2 yrs and decide to divorce is alimony a requirement.

You asked:  if a man and woman is married for less than 2 yrs and decide to divorce is alimony a requirement. Michigan is an alimony state, but that does not mean alimony is awarded in every case, or even in most cases.  The determination of granting alimony is based upon certain criteria, which includes the length of the marriage, the need of of one party, and the ability to pay by the other party.  Two years is considered a short term marriage, but occasionally, short term alimony is granted. If my husband is in prison, what is the easiest way to divorce him?

Divorce lawyer at Peters Law, PLLC
You file a summons and complaint and have him served in prison. It is just like any other divorce except he will not be hard to find to have him served.

Does divorce paperwork expire?

J Matthew Catchick
Answered by attorney J Matthew Catchick (Unclaimed Profile)
Divorce lawyer at Catchick Law, P.C.
If you filed five years ago, the case has VERY likely been administratively dismissed by the Court for "lack of progress" - I would call the County Clerk to confirm 100%. Unfortunately, you will have to file a new Complaint for Divorce, and pay another filing fee, and start the case all over again.
