In order to file for divorce does the person have to be separated for a certain amount of time

Answered by attorney Diana L. Anderson
Divorce lawyer at Diana L. Anderson
If your cause of action is separation then you have to be living apart for 18 months.  If not, then you can plead irreconcilable differences, and file for divorce without separation.

There is no yes/no answer, the decision is for the Judge. You should ask for your interest in your pleadings, the worse the Judge can say is no.

Yes it will be valid as long as Qatar has jursidiction to grant the divorce.  It is the same as if you got married in New Jersey bu moved to New York and always live din New York.  The divorce would be from New York, but would be valid in any other state.
