Your best bet is to confer with an attorney with all of the details and then act in accordance with their advice. Generally it is possible to divorce even if you do not know where you're about to be ex spouse is presently.

How can I find out if I am in fact divorced?

Richard B. Jacobson
Answered by attorney Richard B. Jacobson (Unclaimed Profile)

You could call the clerk of court for the county where you lived at the time of the purported divorce. You could contact the lawyer who told you not to attend. In some states there is a publicly available database of all court cases which you can reach on the net.

How long after I file for divorce will I receive something?

Answered by attorney Austin M Hirschhorn (Unclaimed Profile)
Divorce lawyer at Austin Hirschhorn, P.C.
You should have been served with the complaint that was filed by now. If you are personally served, you have 21 days to respond. If you are served by mail, you have 28 days to respond. If you are sure that your spouse filed a couple of months ago it might make sense for you to contact him and arrange to get a copy of the complaint.
