What do I do if I get a letter to sign a qualified domestic relations order?

A QDRO is required to divide an interest in a pension or other retirement asset, telling the plan administrator how to split the payments. If a retirement asset was awarded to your ex-wife, either in whole or in part, a QDRO is not optional, but you should have an attorney review it before signing, as there are different ways of calculating the distributions and you don't want to pay more than necessary.

A divorce can take up to two years. It really depends on the facts and issues. An attorney charges a retainer based on the case. It can be anywhere from 1000 or so to thousands. Consult with several attorneys to discuss your options.
