In order to have a final judgment of dissolution, the parties have to come to agreement on and/or a court has to resolve all of the issues. Some divorces take longer than others because the parties are in conflict. There is no way to tell from this question where you are in the process of your divorce; but I do suggest you communicate with your attorney and ask this very question.

How can I get a divorce if I just moved from one state to another if my wife and child are still in my old state?

Jack W. Abel
Answered by attorney Jack W. Abel (Unclaimed Profile)

Not an easy question to answer. Ohio has a 6 month residency requirement to file for a divorce. Accordingly, you can file for divorce in Ohio if you have been a resident for 6 months immediately preceding the filing. If, however, your spouse does not live here (or have certain other contacts) and if your child has not lived here for the last 6 months, the court can only grant a divorce - it cannot deal with custody, visitation, alimony or even property division. To deal with those issues you would need to file elsewhere.

How can I get financial help from my husband who left me if we were together for 25 years?

You need to hire an attorney to file either a petition for separate maintenance or divorce. Within one of those proceedings support can be court ordered for you if you qualify, and with a long term marriage like yours it should be ordered. Perhaps you should see legal aid in your community if you cannot afford to hire an attorney.
