How long does a divorce takes and how much is it?

Answered by attorney Barbara Peyton (Unclaimed Profile)
Divorce lawyer at Peyton & Associates
In California it takes six months from the date the other side is served with divorce papers before the divorce can become final, it is not automatic. Certain documents need to be filed with the court to get the final judgment. If there are no arguments and everything is agreed, expect to pay between 2500 to 3K to a lawyer. If you have agreements you will pay quite a bit less to a paralegal.

Can I enter my house to get my property after I left the house?

If your marriage is over, and if you haven't already done so, see an attorney and file for divorce. You can generally obtain a court order that will allow you to return to the house and obtain your separate personal property, such as clothing, toiletries, personal effects, tools for your trade or business. Consult with an attorney to educate yourself about your rights and responsibilities, discuss the specifics about your situation, and your options.
