In Washington State, the Petitioner is required to file the Petition for Dissolution and serve the Respondent with a copy of that Petition. The Respondent is then required to file his/her Answer to the Petition. If the Respondent does not file an Answer and does not participate in the dissolution process, the Court may enter a default Order of Dissolution 90 days after filing. A default Order does not require the Respondent's signature.

It would be wise for you to get advice from a local family lawyer, particularly with your custody issues. Perhaps just one of you could seek a consultation to obtain the information needed.
