Based on what you have said, he will probably get whatever he asks the court for. It is possible to get the case adjourned for good cause.

Does my ex husband have to share my in-laws inheritance?

William H Nebeker
Answered by attorney William H Nebeker (Unclaimed Profile)
Divorce lawyer at Havens Law, LLC
Your husband's inheritance MAY be divided. It is up to the discretion of the Court whether it awards inheritance property under equitable principles. The likelihood of you getting any proceeds increases as the interest in the inheritance gets treated as commingled property, you've maintained, augmented, or protected that interest. Also, a Court may award some or all of the inheritance as an off-set to Alimony or in lieu of another issue pertaining to your divorce. The longer the marriage the better, 20 yrs. is a long marriage. You obviously increase your chances by persuading the judge to exercise its discretion in your favor, which requires skill and experience.
