Kevin Cheney wanted to be an attorney for as long as he can remember. He always envisioned standing in the courtroom fighting for the rights of the little guy. His heroes included Atticus Finch and Gerry Spence. As Mr. Cheney grew up he learned just how stacked the deck was against the common man. Insurance companies and the government often have vast resources. They do not always fight fair. Mr. Cheney realized that his life-long dream had become more important than ever. Over a decade later, Mr. Cheney still believes in protecting rights and promoting justice. Mr. Cheney was born and raised in Casper, Wyoming, where he learned the importance of hard work and looking out for your neighbors. Those values define Mr. Cheney today. Hard work is essential in any profession but nowhere is it more important than the legal profession. Since co-founding CGH, Mr. Cheney continues to devote himself to helping others and the passionate practice of law. He has represented injured victims and helped them navigate the often difficult process of negotiating with the insurance companies. But if those companies refuse to negotiate in good faith, Mr. Cheney has no problem taking them to court. Outside the courtroom, Mr. Cheney is active in the Colorado Trial Lawyers Association. That includes sitting on its Legislative Committee where he fights at the Legislature on behalf of consumers. Mr. Cheney also is passionate about defending the rights of those accused of crimes. He has secured not guilty verdicts for those wrongly accused for crimes ranging from DUI to large-scale felony theft. He has reached favorable plea deals with local prosecutors for those clients who just made a mistake. Mr. Cheney has handled a wide array of cases from misdemeanor dui and assault charges to serious felonies like sexual assault and second degree assault with a deadly weapon. Prior to forming CGH, Mr. Cheney attended law school at the University of Colorado, serving as Vice-President of his class. While there, he successfully argued that the City of Boulder’s “Use of Fighting Words” ordinance violated the First Amendment and the trial court declared the City’s law unconstitutional.
