About Ashton Richard Berne

Ashton Berne earned his Juris Doctor from the University of Colorado Law School in 2022 after earning his BA in General History from Colorado State University in 2019. While in law school, he participated in the Civil Practice Clinic as a Student Attorney representing indigent clients in discrimination, wage theft, and other related employment law matters. Ashton also sharpened his writing and oral advocacy skills as part of the University of Colorado Law Review and as a member and External Chair of the school’s Moot Court Division. During his time at the University of Colorado, Ashton worked for the Colorado State University Office of the General Counsel as a Legal Intern, as a Judicial Intern for the 18th Judicial District Court, and as a law clerk for a personal injury firm based in Westminster, Colorado. Upon graduation, Ashton received the Colorado Law Public Service Pledge for contributing at least 50 hours of law-related public service work during his time in law school.

Before joining NDM, Ashton worked for the Primera law Group as the firm’s first Associate Attorney. During his time with the Primera Law Group, Ashton handled a variety of cases, including: Title VII/ADA/CADA claims before the EEOC and CCRD, negotiation of non-compete and other employment agreements, Section 1983/1981 civil rights litigation, premises liability/negligence cases, wage and hour cases, fair labor and employee group bargaining cases before the NLRB and related agencies, and much more. Ashton has also had the privilege of representing countless clients in high stakes litigation against well-resourced opponents in both state and federal court. Ashton currently practices in Colorado state and federal district courts, focusing on insurance defense.

Having spent most of his life in Colorado, Ashton regularly hikes, camps, and kayaks across the state with his partner and their two dogs.
