About Adam J. Detsky

Adam Detsky has handled numerous civil cases in New York state and federal courts from time of occurrence through trial. His litigation experience includes product liability, construction accident claims, premises liability, security guard claims and navigation law. Adam has also argued before New York's First, Second and Fourth Appellate Departments as both appellant and respondent.

In addition to the practice of law, Adam teaches trial advocacy at to undergraduate college students. He has been an adjunct professor at Iona College since 2003, where he serves as educator and coach of the schools intercollegiate mock trial team, which is ranked among the top 15 percent of the approximately 650 teams in the country and one of the top-ranked teams in New York. At Iona, Adam teaches advanced application of the Federal Rules of Evidence, Rules of Civil Procedure and general advocacy skills such as writing opening statements and closing arguments, performing direct and cross examinations of witnesses, and public speaking skills. Adam previously coached a trial advocacy team at Pace Law School.

After-hours Time Spent by Employees for Required Security Checks Is Not Integral to the Employees' Job and Not Compensable under FLSA

More than a dozen class-action lawsuits have been filed against companies that use security checks at the end of shifts to make sure none of their inventory walks out with the workers. In ruling that time spent in waiting for loss control security checks at the end of the work day is not compensable time under the FLSA, the U.S. Supreme Court has effectively ended this burgeoning area of litigation.
