Mr. Coumanis and Mr. York first became associated in their legal careers as fellow Assistant District Attorneys in Mobile County, Alabama more than 30 years ago, took separate legal paths until forming COUMANIS & YORK, P.C. Since the Firm's inception in 2009, it has enjoyed an AV Rating by Martindale-Hubbell, the highest attainable rating, which reflects the Firm's exceptional legal standing. Upon completion of the Tulane University School of Law in 1988, Mr. Coumanis served as an Assistant District Attorney in Mobile County for nearly five years. After serving as an Assistant District Attorney and trying over 65 jury trials, Mr. Coumanis joined a prominent and respected litigation firm in Mobile, Alabama in 1994 and became a member of that firm in 2000. Mr. Coumanis focuses his trial practice in the areas of white collar and criminal defense, whistleblower and qui tam litigation, complex civil litigation including personal injury and wrongful death and employment litigation.
Mr. York served as an Assistant District Attorney in both Mobile County, Alabama and Douglas County, Georgia. Following his tenure in the Mobile County District Attorneys Office, Mr. York entered private practice in Mobile by joining a prominent civil defense law firm. In 2001 he was appointed by President George W. Bush as U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Alabama. In 2006 he returned to the private practice of law in Baldwin County, Alabama. Mr. York concentrates his practice on whistleblower and qui tam litigation, complex civil litigation including personal injury and wrongful death, white collar and criminal defense and family law.
Mr. Coumanis and Mr. York collectively will have been practicing law for 70 years as of May, 2023. Mr. Coumanis and Mr. York have collectively tried over 150 jury trials in state and federal courts. Together, Mr. Coumanis and Mr. York put their collective experience to work to vigorously represent the interests of people and businesses injured or harmed, people and businesses wrongfully charged or prosecuted and people and businesses subjected to the wrongful enforcement of immigration laws all along the Gulf Coast and in Mobile and Baldwin Counties.
