About Thomas W. Beecher

Thomas W. Beecher practices in the areas of land use and zoning, municipal law, civil litigation and appellate practice. He is often counsel to other firm members in zoning litigation and appellate matters. He began his law career in 1983 as a law clerk to the Honorable T. Clark Hull of the Connecticut Appellate Court. He joined the law firm in 1984.

Mr. Beecher has received the AV Preeminent Peer Review Rating by Martindale-Hubbell, the highest possible rating for both legal ability and ethical standards issued pursuant to this long-established peer review process. He has also been named to the list of “Connecticut Super Lawyers” from 2011 to present in the area of land use and zoning.

Mr. Beecher represents individuals, developers, and businesses in zoning and other land use and development applications before planning and zoning commissions, zoning boards of appeal and inland wetlands commissions. (Click here for a list of representative projects.) He also represents municipalities in advising boards and commissions in land use matters. He prosecutes and defends land use agency decision appeals and litigation in addition to other civil litigation matters, including tax appeals and real estate issues. He also has over 35 years of experience in municipal law. He represented numerous tax districts and landowners’ associations in the greater Danbury area. In addition to land use appeals, Mr. Beecher represents clients in appeals to the Connecticut Supreme and Appellate Courts. He has prosecuted and defended numerous appeals in both courts.

Mr. Beecher has served as an Attorney State Trial Referee for the Connecticut Judicial Department and has served as an arbitrator in civil matters. He presently serves as counsel to the Ridgefield Planning and Zoning Commission and the Ridgefield Inland Wetlands Board. He also serves as Town Attorney for the Town of Brookfield. He previously served as Town Attorney for the Town of New Milford from 1995-2001. Mr. Beecher is a member of the Connecticut Trial Lawyers Association, the Connecticut Bar Association, the Connecticut Association of Municipal Attorneys, and the Danbury Bar Association. Mr. Beecher served as a member of the Litchfield County Grievance Committee, which reviews complaints against attorneys, and from 1988 to 1995, served as Chairman of the New Milford Ethics Commission. He was also a member of the New Milford Republican Town Committee from 1987 to 2005. He is currently a member of the New Milford Parks and Recreation Commission after serving twelve years as Chairman.

Mr. Beecher has two adult children and resides in New Milford with his wife.
