About Ron C. McCallum

The principal attorney at his law firm in Dallas, Texas, Ron McCallum primarily practices personal injury and wrongful death litigation. He represents people throughout the DFW metropolitan area, and other parts of the state who have suffered harm because of the negligence of other parties. The types of cases that Mr. McCallum has litigated have included bus, truck and other commercial vehicle crashes, toxic exposure, product liability, refinery explosions, airplane crashes, and construction site and oilfield injuries.

Ron McCallum was born in Dallas, Texas and attended high school at Missouri Military Academy. He followed two majors at the University of Oklahoma, Sociology and Professional Aviation. After graduating from the University of Oklahoma in 1997, he began his career as a professional pilot. While maintaining his career as a pilot, he earned his Juris Doctor degree from South Texas College of Law in 2001, where he was a member of the International Law Journal.

Mr. McCallum spent several years at leading personal injury law firms before founding Ron C. McCallum & Associates, PLLC., in January 2018. Admitted to practice before all Texas and Oklahoma state courts, he is also admitted to practice before the U.S. District Courts for the Northern and Eastern Districts of Texas. An accomplished pilot, Mr. McCallum is a member of the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association as well as several legal organizations.

Throughout his career, Mr. McCallum has obtained numerous settlements and jury awards for his clients. One notable lawsuit resulted in a jury award of nearly $19 million against Greyhound Lines, Inc., in a case involving a Greyhound bus that lost control on a road covered with ice, catastrophically injuring two of his clients. As a result of his successes, Mr. McCallum is a member of the Multi-Million Dollar Advocates Forum, and he has been awarded an AV Preeminent* peer review rating through Martindale-Hubbell and a 10.0 'Superb' peer review rating through Avvo. He has also been named to The National Trial Lawyers: Top 40 Under 40.

As a trial lawyer, Mr. McCallum has secured five multi-million dollar verdicts. These verdicts were obtained against aggressive and well-funded opponents, some of whom were multi-billion-dollar corporations. Mr. McCallum has turned serious injury cases into large settlements and verdicts in favor of his clients. Attorneys across the country have trusted him to handle their most serious cases at every stage of litigation. His trial success includes the largest verdict ever against Greyhound Inc., in Reedy v. Greyhound Lines, Inc., No. 09-09239 (193rd Dist. Ct., Dallas County, Tex. Nov. 14, 2011). That unanimous verdict was the #1 largest motor vehicle verdict in the State of Texas and Dallas County for 2011.

The clients in this case were injured when a Greyhound bus lost control on an icy road in December 2007. Mr. McCallum’s courtroom victory against Greyhound came after a three-week trial, wherein the jury awarded over $18.6 million, including $9 million in punitive damages. This was the largest verdict ever awarded against Greyhound and was covered by local and national media.

Again, in January of 2013, Mr. McCallum tried the case of Ken Zeiler, et al., v. Barron Thomas, et al., No. CC-09-03492 (Dallas Co. Ct. at Law No. 3). In this case concerning breach of contract, fraudulent inducement and “Ponzi” scheme allegations, Mr. McCallum obtained a verdict of $867,880.20, including $250,000.00 in punitive awards against the Defendants.

Yet another important verdict came on April 24, 2014 in the case of Bush v. R&L Carriers, Inc., No. DC-11-16041 (298th Dist. Ct., Dallas County, Tex. Apr. 14, 2014). A Mississippi woman was seriously injured when her pick-up truck rolled over after it was rear-ended by an 18-wheel tractor-trailer driver.

The jury in this case found that the truck driver, who had two previous rear-end collisions, was grossly negligent. The jury further found that his employers, Greenwood Motor Lines, Inc., doing business as R&L Carriers, were grossly negligent in failing to properly supervise and train their driver. The client was awarded over $4.1 million.

This case is unique in that Mr. McCallum held the largest private trucking company accountable under both general negligence, and by clear and convincing evidence for gross negligence findings against both the driver and the company.

Recently, Mr. McCallum obtained the second largest recovery in the history of Lubbock County Texas. Despite overwhelming odds for his client, Mr. McCallum resolved a motor vehicle case for over $6.4 million dollars.

Mr. McCallum’s success in the courtroom reflects in being awarded the highest possible rating in both legal ability and ethics by Martindale-Hubbell (AV Preeminent) and being selected as a “Super Lawyer” for the last five consecutive years (2013 - 2025). Mr. McCallum was also selected as a “Texas Rising Star” by Super Lawyers (a Thompson Reuters publication) in 2011, 2012 and 2013, which is an honor limited to the top 2.5 percent of lawyers in the State of Texas. Most recently, Mr. McCallum was selected as one of the top trial lawyers in Texas by The National Trial Lawyers Association, an organization that limits membership to the top 40 trial lawyers in each state.

From day one Ron had our best interest in mind and made sure to take all the burden off of us. This is the first time we have had to go through something like this and Ron took on our case without hesitation. Not only is he an amazing lawyer but an individual I will always recommend to friends and family in our situation. Thank you so much Ron.

$6,375,000.00 Settlement Won for Texas Man Disabled in Collision with Fallen Equipment

DALLAS – A North Texas man left permanently disabled after heavy equipment fell from a flatbed truck, causing a violent highway collision, will be paid $6.375 million for his injuries based on a settlement won on February 16, 2017.

    Sidney Jacob “Jake” Gibson
his wife Jennifer, who live in Richardson, Texas, had driven to Lubbock to pick up their daughter at Texas Tech University the morning of May 14, 2013. Mrs. Gibson was driving while Mr. Gibson slept beside her in the front of the family's Dodge Ram truck.

The driver of a flatbed truck they were following made a dangerous U-turn, causing an unsecured 1,200-pound metal fixture known as a “plastic injection mold” to fall onto the highway directly in Mrs. Gibson's path. The subsequent investigation showed that the mold had not been strapped onto the truck bed in violation of state
federal safety regulations. Mrs. Gibson was unable to avoid hitting the mold
slammed into it, catapulting their truck into the air before crashing to the ground. Mr. Gibson was transported to a Lubbock hospital for evaluation.

Initial police reports found Mr. Gibson was not wearing a seatbelt, but Mr. McCallum proved through extensive investigative work, medical records
    accident re-creations that both Mr.
Mrs. Gibson were in fact wearing seatbelts. It is extremely rare for a police department to amend a police report. Mr. McCallum was able to show sufficient evidence to the Lubbock Police Chief that the Chief personally amended the report to reflect that Mr. Gibson was belted. This resulted in the production of a corrected police report that found Mr. Gibson was belted at the time of impact.

    Despite treatment, Mr. Gibson's back
neck pain worsened over time requiring a series of surgeries. As a result, he has limited mobility
is unable to continue working at the Frisco-area carpentry business he owned.

“Before this horrible crash, Jake Gibson loved to be outdoors
    on the lake, skiing
spending time with his family. He loved dancing with his daughter,” said attorney Ron McCallum of Simon Greenstone. “But the failure of the equipment hauler to adhere to the most basic safety precautions has irreparably altered life for Mr. Gibson. Money is no substitute for walking your daughter down the aisle at her wedding or teaching your gr
child to swim. But at least the family will not have to struggle to pay for ongoing medical care.”

Immediately after the collision, the Plaintiff was taken by EMS to the University Medical Center where he was treated
released with a diagnosis of acute lumbar sprain/strain. He received physical therapy three times per week, but as time progressed, the Plaintiff's pain did not subside but instead continued to worsen. He then underwent an MRI of the lumbar spine, which revealed: a mild-to-moderate superior compression fracture of the L1
a linear fracture line along the superior L1 endplate
    a 2mm disc bulge at L4-5

a 3mm annular disc bulge with an annular tear at L4-5.

    The Plaintiff underwent cervical
    lumbar ESIs
facet injections. A cervical anterior discectomy
interbody arthrodesis fusion to the C4-C6 was performed. A second surgery was performed: a bilateral laminectomy
foraminotomy & poteriolateral fusion with autograft
allograft of the L5-S1. Due to the severities of his injuries, the Plaintiff had to undergo a third surgery: a 540 fusion along with a revision of the lumbar procedure. It was noted that it is highly likely that he will need additional surgeries in the future
    possibly long-term aid.

Mr. McCallum proved that the company vehicle was equipped with safety straps. However, the employees intentionally elected not to use them. The Defendant, as an employer with many years of service in the industry, knew or should have known to follow their own safety rules as well as the rules of the road when it comes to cargo securement. Mr. McCallum developed strong evidence that the Defendants violated Texas State Law, among other safety rules
regulations that are intended to protect the public against harm.

With the Defendant's facing almost certain submission to the Jury on both ordinary
gross negligence claims, a compromise was reached on the eve of trial wherein the case resolved for 6,375,000.00.

The $6.375 million agreement is believed to be the second largest settlement ever reported in Lubbock County.
