Can my boyfriend be released out of jail now that I have dropped the charges? Can I appeal so he will not be deported?

Answered by attorney Jonathan Hackworth
Criminal Law lawyer at Hackworth Law P.A.
Just because you "dropped" the charges does not mean the State has totally abandoned the charges as well. I would strongly recommend you all retain a criminal defense attorney to assist him in the matter.

How can I file a lawsuit against an attorney for defamation?

Answered by attorney Robert Jason De Groot (Unclaimed Profile)
Criminal Law lawyer at R. Jason de Groot, P.A.
Hire an attorney for this. In a suit for defamation you will most likely have to pay an attorney a heck of a lot of money for something like this if it is even possible. It may not be possible because there is something called a litigation privilege. As long as the attorney reasonably believed what was written in the suit, then there should not be a suit against the attorney, you would have to definitely show some form of malice.

How long after your probation period is up will the court case be dismissed in public records?

Answered by attorney Elizabeth Zwiebel
Criminal Law lawyer at The Zwiebel Law Firm, LLC
In Alabama, there is the pardon process. Upon completion of probation and payment of all fines and fees, you may qualify for a pardon. If you decide to apply for a pardon, you will need to seek legal advice of an experience attorney that deals with pardons. If your application is denied or incomplete you may not reapply for five years. Hiring an attorney who regularly deals with this process can assist you in getting an approval.
