I don't know what you were charged with. Most misdemeanors have a 1 year statute of limitations, felony charges 3 years, sex cases at least 8 years and murder no limit.

Can I testify in court to something my friend told me she did, even though I never saw her do it?

The courts will not allow statements that were made out of court that are presented to suggest that what was then said was true. This is considered Hearsay and is NOT admissible in court. There are exceptions to the hearsay rule and depending on what she said, it may be within one of the exceptions. Speak to an attorney directly about this if you care to.

What is the penalty for simple assault domestic violence?

Jared Clayton Austin
Answered by attorney Jared Clayton Austin (Unclaimed Profile)
Criminal Law lawyer at Austin Legal Services, PLC
If it was simple assault with no serious injury then you should be facing a 93-day misdemeanor. There is an option in Michigan for first-time domestic violence offenders known as 769 which would keep the matter off your public record if you successfully complete probation. Speak to a criminal attorney in your area about your case for a more thorough analysis.
