You plead guilty, and have an unclean record for the rest of your life, OR you plead not guilty and (1) represent yourself; (2) ask for public defender; or (3) ask for opportunity to retain your own attorney.

What will happen to a failure to comply with park sign in NY?

Answered by attorney Eric E Rothstein (Unclaimed Profile)
Criminal Law lawyer at Rothstein Law PLLC
What do you mean by "park sign?" Did this take place in a New York City park? If yes, any charge you received is a misdemeanor under the Park Rules. If this took place in a path station you are probably charged with trespass, which is also a misdemeanour. Either way, you are charged with a crime so you should hire a criminal defense lawyer so you do not end up with a criminal record for life. If your case is at 346 Broadway a lawyer can appear for you so you would not have to appear. At any other court it may be possible for a lawyer to appear for you depending on where exactly you live.

Do I need an attorney for a theft charge?

Answered by attorney Paula Wasserman Drake (Unclaimed Profile)
Criminal Law lawyer at Law Offices of Paula Drake
I suggest you get an attorney; if you cannot afford one, apply for the public defender. If this is a first offense, often something can be worked out in a case like this. Do not walk in yourself and plead guilty to the charge. You may be able to get a reduction to an infraction or a deal or program that will lead to a dismissal of the charge altogether.
