Your boyfriend probably has one strike against him and is probably looking at additional strikes making him eligible for an extremely lengthy jail sentence. If he has not done so already.

You better look for a way to make money. People who shoot into inhabited dwellings usually stay in custody for a long time. If he is charged and asserts insanity, it takes a long time to have him evaluated. Spending money on bail is not wise. You fought off a man with a gun that wanted to toe the line with death. Let the psychiatrists evaluate and report. People held for a mental evaluation are not eligible for bail in any event until the mental evaluation hold is lifted. Even then, the amount of time he will get if convicted makes paying bail a waste.
